| Dutchess County Singles,
Inc. (DCS) is a non-profit organization formed for the sole purpose of
organizing social, physical, educational and cultural activities at which
single people can meet. Singles of all ages, beliefs and occupations from
Dutchess and surrounding counties are welcome. Activities include dances,
trips, house parties, dinner at local restaurants, hiking and much more. |
| To be eligible for DCS membership you must be at least 21
years old and divorced, legally separated, widowed or never married. DCS
reserves the right to request proof of single status.
The annual membership fee is $15.00 (primarily to cover the cost of the
newsletter). Please mail your completed application and payment to the address
shown on the application. The fees charged for various activities are intended
to be "break-even" amounts.
All DCS memberships expire on May 31. Renewals should be sent during
April and May. If you first join DCS during June through December, you
must pay a full year's membership. If you join in January, February or March,
you pay for half the year. In both cases your membership must be renewed
the following May. If you join DCS in April or May you must pay
a full year's membership and your membership expires May 31 of the following
year (i e, you get 13 or 14 months of membership).
DCS is managed by an elected board of officers, who
serve for one calendar year. There are no paid officers, although the officers
do not pay dues for the year they are serving and are not charged for dances.
The Club is always interested in having members volunteer to serve as officers.
The current officers are listed in every newsletter. You may contact any
officer if you have questions, comments of suggestions about the Club.

Some comments:
DCS is open to all ages 21 or over. Most (but not all) members are within
the 30--55 year old group and activities tend to be oriented toward this
age range.
The Club, through its officers, usually arranges two major activities each
month, one of which is our dance. The dances usually have over 200 people
attending. All other activities are done by volunteers among our members.
All members are expected to organize (or at least help run) one activity
each year. (The officers will be happy to help you participate).
House parties (scheduled by you, the DCS members) tend to be popular. The
leader usually limits attendance to something like 20 to 40 people. Most
house parties reach their limits early, so you should make an early reservation,
if you are interested in attending a house party listed in the newsletter.
Other activities are more specialized and may have anywhere from 10 to 30-plus
participants. If an activity listed in the newsletter interests you, but
you have questions; then please do not hesitate to call the contact person
listed.
We invite non-members to many activities (at a slightly higher charge). We
expect these non-members to be single, but we have no way to verify or enforce
this. Leaders of some activities (house parties in particular), sometimes
limit their activities to members only.
The DCS Board usually meets on the second Thursday of each month. The final
text of the newsletter for the following month is set at this meeting. If
you wish to offer an activity, you must contact an officer early enough to
have it included in the newsletter for the following month. The Board meetings
are at various locations. If you wish to attend, please call one of the
officers. |
